juan 7 of the Lishui County Gazetteer, in the section on schools, records:

旧志：唐武德七年建，在旧县治东三十步

Translated: "An earlier gazetteer: built in the seventh year of the Wude era (624 CE), thirty paces east of the old county office." The rendering is a translation by this library, not the wording of the original text. The first two characters mean "an earlier gazetteer" and show that the passage quotes an older gazetteer rather than recording the fact in the gazetteer's own voice. On the evidence available, the school was founded in 624, thirty paces east of the old county office.

Points of doubt

• The passage is a quotation from an earlier gazetteer. The wording that marks it as such is kept, and the statement must not be presented as the gazetteer's own record.
• The scanned edition is attributed to Ding Weicheng, who matches the compiler of the Guangxu edition of the Lishui County Gazetteer, so the edition is uncertain; this entry does not call the gazetteer an edition of any particular reign.
• The sources used here do not record the successive moves and rebuilding of the school, its scale, or its surviving remains.
