Horn Lantern

According to the public notice of January 2024, Horn Lantern is one of the new inscriptions in the recommended list for the fourth batch of district-level intangible cultural heritage items. Its category is folk custom and its applicant unit is the Hefeng Town People's Government. The name is written with the characters for "horn" and "lantern"; the notice does not say whether "horn" refers to the shape of the lantern, to a musical instrument, or to the arrangement of a ceremonial procession, and the item is not placed in the traditional dance category.

Entry to be expanded. This is a skeleton entry: at present it guarantees only that the fields and sources are complete. Still to be added: the form of the lantern, its materials and making, what the word "horn" in the title refers to, the season and ritual sequence in which the lantern is carried, the villages and groups taking part, how the item differs from other lantern types in Hefeng Town, and its historical origin and line of transmission. Until then, no unverified details will be entered.
